Hare Duke King Ceramics, a father-daughter duo, Barney and Imogen, based in Manchester and London. Barney and Imogen’s pieces are made with a commitment to functionality with an aim to enhance everyday moments, from eating and drinking to simply living. Adding something extra to daily life.
Barney has had a forty-five year career working with ceramics as a potter, teacher, festival director and curator. In 2021 he re-established his studio practice in Manchester and is now making wheel thrown tableware. Red terracotta forms are distinguished with a cream slip wash, coloured brushwork and scored gestural marks.
Imogen has been working as a professional actor since she was 18, and during this time she has also trained with and worked alongside her father in the pottery. Continuing to develop both careers in parallel, Imogen is currently making thrown stoneware pots. Working with an earthy aesthetic, she draws on nature for inspiration creating pieces which evoke its calming and ever changing elemental qualities.
Together Imogen and Barney are developing a joint collection of works. Thrown carved and constructed one off decorative and functional forms, which explore and express our joint approach and take the work in to a larger scale.
The joint collection is due for launch in Spring 2025.
